Anti Social...
It's been almost 8 months since I deleted Facebook and Instagram. It's not been easy, as I've talked about. I miss my friends. I miss seeing how everyone is doing. What everyone is doing. But that's the thing with boycotts, it's much easier to take a stand if there is no cost to you to do so. It was really easy for people to boycott Chick-Fil-A when there wasn't one on every corner in the Portland area, but I see those lines, I know you're there. Hate chicken should give you indigestion. Like Zuck's social media.
So yeah, it was the right thing to do, but there is a part of me that really misses it and wishes I hadn't done it.
But...
I'm thinking about dropping Bluesky. Not a lot of people migrated over from Facebook and the ones who did don't really post much if at all so it's not really taking the place of those interactions. I keep unfollowing political accounts and opinion writers because it's all just too much, I'm down to a smallish handful of writers and pundits. I get some newsletters so I wouldn't be in the dark about what is happening in the world, but it would limit the coverage for sure. Not as much repeated.
I have found myself opening the app, looking at something, closing the app, then reopening it again and the feed won't have changed because it's literally been a minute, not figuratively been a minute.
I'm not sure I would lose anything by dropping it.
I'll probably do what I did with Facebook and take a couple of runs at it to see if it works for me to drop it. Like maybe August will be no Bluesky. August sucks anyway, so maybe viewing less suckage on my phone will be a good idea. Maybe August sucking so much is actually what's driving me to think about dropping Bluesky in the first place. Like subconsciously I've already started to prep.
Or maybe this is just something that sounds like a good idea today and won't by tomorrow.
