Build and Rebuild...

Doing my cardio today and it's a building program. The trainer was going over the plan for the day and then said, "But, hey, you know what? If you aren't ready for this then that's okay. Just go back a week and redo last week. And do that as many times as you need to until you are ready. Sometimes you need to build more when you are rebuilding."

And it's true. My own fitness has shown that. Looking at those numbers I was lifting before Covid hit and I was like...woah...I have lost so much. But I'm rebuilding now. And not just losing access to the gym for a stretch (as we built our own here) but there were two times in the past six years that I've basically torn parts of my body down to start over. With the procedure I had done on my elbow and the one for my ankle it was a rebuild from almost scratch when they were done.

It reminded me of the home improvement shows that are out there. The ones where they take down a wall and find a pack of rabid wolverines are living there. The thing they don't do is put some drywall back up and paint it twice to hide it. They take it all down, fix whatever needs to be fixed (usually mold or dry rot, rarely rabid wolverines) and then rebuild it back correctly.

Now I'm not positive that the results from the midterms will be a giant blue tsunami, if polls were always right Clinton would have beaten Trump way back in 2016 and none of this would have happened in the first place, but But BUT if it is? If the democrats take the House and the Senate? If they can put some brakes on the current administration? If they can do enough good to then turn 2028 into a three branches of government situation? Well, we need to do more than put a fresh coat of paint on things.

This administration has shown the dry rot in our systems. The mold that has been growing behind the walls and how quickly it can take over a space. The things we all thought were guardrails that ended up not even being merely suggestions. We know the system is faulty and we need to fix it.

That means accountability for the current administration and its enablers. No more, "for the good of the country we just move on." No. For the good of the country we fix this shit. We hold people to account. We get back whatever money we can from what has been looted. We send people to jail.

Then we scrape out the systemic rot. Then we look at what's left and we build. Not even rebuild. We don't want what was there. That was obviously not good. We, as a country, need something better.

No more making nice because it's the right thing to do. It's not. If Trump's reelection didn't teach you that I don't know what will. Maybe losing your next election. Maybe getting primaried hard from the left. Maybe some consequences for your inactions.

We need to scrape out the rot and start over.

And it's going to take more time than we think.

And we all need to be ready for that.

But it's what needs to be done.
