Clearly...
Since it's December 3 and this is the first time this month I've sat down to write clearly I haven't beaten the mehs just yet. But to be fair to myself I knew that I'd have a quiet start to the week.
We had the girls for three days over Thanksgiving and as much as I love having them here it always reinforces how very quiet and calm my house normally is. They bring a lot of energy into my space. And then we followed up with a show on Sunday night so even more people in my space and so yeah, Monday was super chore day and yesterday was Tig insists on sleeping on my lap and you know what? I'm fine with that, I'll just stay still and let him.
Today was back to semi normal and making sure I sat down to write.
Something.
I spent some time this morning looking for 2026 things. I need a new planner, yes I use a paper planner, we've talked about this, where would I put my stars if I didn't have one? I've had the perfect one for the past two years but it finally ran out. I found the company online to order another one just like it but they only sell through Amazon and unless it's a MUST have we don't shop from Amazon anymore. This year I've bought nine things from Amazon, 8 of those things were purchased before January 2oth so you can see when the decision was made. Just for comparison's sake I made 166 purchases from Amazon in 2024.
So, anyway, I couldn't find one that I really liked online. I'll have to go out and look for one this month at Office Depot or Barnes and Noble. I also looked at some Question A Day desk calendars, the ones that I was thinking I might use to prompt more writing about different topics next year. I didn't settle on any of those either. The sample questions they showed were...well...let's just say not really inspiring.
BUT there was one called Cheese Sex Death and thought about getting it for Skippy. Because she loves cheese and it's trying to kill her. I'm not sure where the sex part would fit in, but Cheese and Death seemed appropriate. I didn't get it, because it also seemed a little threatening, here is a calendar about something that wants to kill you, and also because they are a day ahead in Australia so I don't think American calendars work there. (and the shipping was INSANE)
The other thing that made me laugh is that there was one of those desk calendars specifically for writers to combat writer's block. Prompts and projects and inspirational quotes. It was one of the few desk calendars that was marked "ALMOST SOLD OUT." Apparently I am not the only writer looking for inspiration. And those prompts were also sort of meh.
Which maybe it's just my mind right now. Maybe it's not them but me. Everything is just a little uninspiring. Maybe that's the issue. Until I get past the mehs all of it will seem meh to me.
Except the Cheese Sex Death calendar. That wasn't meh. That was hilarious.
