Digital Tidying
I just went through and cleared out a bunch of library books from my Kindle library. Or ghost books I guess. The books themselves weren't really there. Or I mean, is anything really there when you are talking about an electronic book?
ANYWAY...
Even though I had finished the books and returned them to the library the book cover picture still shows up in my library unless I go in and delete them. Which sometimes I do and sometimes I think I'll do it later. Today I went into the main screen off of the Amazon page and just cleared them all out in batches.
The last time I did it was 2021. I can tell because there were no "This book was a Kindle Library loan" tags earlier than that. So at some point in 2021 I sat down and cleared out a bunch of books. I wonder what I was avoiding doing?
Not that I'm avoiding doing anything right now...I mean I could be doing extra monthly chores, or dusting, or weeding, or washing the windows or...
I mean I came in here to write and now I'm writing so maybe a little stalling but not terrible.
Now you might be asking yourself why I even bothered clearing them out. It's not like they were taking up storage space. The books themselves were gone. It's not like they were in a pile by the bed that I hadn't read. I had read them all. I mean, I have HUNDREDS of books on my Kindle that I haven't read. Yet. That I swear I am going to get to and then new books keep getting published and library books move to the top of the pile because there is a deadline on those but I'm totally going to stop picking up new books until I read the ones I have and...Oh wait, there's a new Thursday Murder Club book out in September? Let me go put a notice in Libby for that one.
And that's why I cleared them out. I don't want to see books I've already read, but don't own to read again, in my library. I have SO MANY books I want to read already in there that those phantom books bother me. It makes it look like I didn't get to them. That's really the issue. I like to finish things off. Get that star, doncha know.
Brent knows that if we are down to one or two episodes of some series we are watching it's going to make me ridiculously pleased with myself to finish them out. Check! Done. We aren't bingers, for the most part, so we often have 3 or 4 series going at once and we are behind everyone else in finishing them. Like we just finished the latest season of Black Mirror a couple of weeks ago. Right after I published a short story that you would have thought was inspired by the second to last episode of the year, but no, I just have a brain that works like a Black Mirror writer.
And Brent still sleeps at night.
Anyway, what I'm saying is cleaning up my Kindle totally counts as housework and whew...I'm exhausted. I think I need to spend the rest of the day with a good book.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
KIDDING! I'm kidding!
Kind of.
I mean I'll always take a recommendation.
I'll just add it to the stack.
