Isn't It Romantic?
The next two blogs are going to be ones inspired by my friend's radio program. That's one of the reasons why I love when you all share your creative projects, not only are they fun but they are inspiring. Totally selfish of me to use your stuff to create mine and I'm not even a little bit ashamed.
So anyway...
Quite a few months ago Brent told me that our friend Joe had shared what he said was probably the best love song out there. I asked him what it was and he said, "I'm not spoiling it, you'll have to listen for yourself. But I bet you agree."
Which is funny since you all know how I feel about spoilers but it was also super ornery because at the time I couldn't get the radio show to load. Those technology gremlins. But then Joe changed servers, I got the whole thing to work and I've been making my way through his back catalog ever since.
TODAY I finally heard the show Brent told me about so long ago. And...
Yeah. It's one of my favorite songs EVER let alone favorite romantic songs, but it's #2 on my list of love songs.
Now you are asking yourself what it is and I say, listen to the show... No, just kidding, I'll tell you.
In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel
It's a beautiful song. A lot of people (as Joe said, though he didn't really commit to it being his) think it's probably the best love song out there. And it's pretty damn close.
SO (pun intended) what do I think the number one is?
God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
The reason for their placement is that In Your Eyes is me thinking about Brent and God Only Knows is Brent thinking about me. (I didn't say it, I mean I wrote it, but it's what he says) And being loved by someone is just that much more romantic than loving someone.
The lyrics to IYE, to me, are about someone who views their partner as their safe harbor. The place they return too when the world is too much. Brent is that to me. I've talked about it a lot. That my brain is a storm most of the time. He helps me calm it and center it, and focus it. His hand on my knee has saved many a person from finding out that the sweet face hides a mean hook.
Brent is my anchor to the world when sometimes I feel like I would just float away. He gives me stability when I am spinning off. He gives me safety when the shadows creep in. He is my comfort and my love.
GOK is all about (again, to me viewing through Brent's eyes) someone saying that no matter what they will love their person. That not only will they always love them but that the world would not be worth much without them in it. That they have changed because of that love. Brent has said I made him a better person. And that's sob inducing romantic to me. Yes, sob inducing. You all know my basic settings don't really go to romantic but when Brent sends me a link to a sweet song and tells me it makes him think of me? Niagara Falls... And GOK is one of those songs for him. Or more correctly the Number One of those songs.
I am the nonsense in Brent's very ordered world. I bring him the colors that he might have missed otherwise. I give him a different perspective on life. I mean, afterall I have 20 at any given time, might as well share!
I also like to think that I am the safe harbor for him as well. As he is also the greatest spot of joy for me. The man has the best sense of humor. Never fails to make me laugh.
I know, it's all so very sweet for a non-Anniversary blog, but the song was today and the anniversary is still a few months away. (40 this year so I guess I'm entitled to be as mushy about him as I want to be!)
What do you think? Are those the best love songs or do you have others that are your list?
Of course those are our individual songs, for the true romance of our relationship I always default to the song that would have been our wedding song if it had come out a year earlier...
No spoilers, but here's the link.
