It's All Political...

I've never had much patience for people who say they don't do politics. How can you not do politics? Either national, state, local, work or familial politics. We all do politics.

But I do get the desire to not have to do politics. And I understand the frustration right now that everything is political. Like, everything. There are echoes in things that just didn't used to be as strong.

I'm not watching the Olympics. It's just too complicated in my head right now to cheer for the USA. I appreciate the work and the dedication of the athletes who have spent their lives training for these games, but...I just can't put everything aside and drape myself in the red, white, and blue.

I had the same problem during World Juniors this year. That's the annual junior hockey tournament. I usually watch every year. In the past when we had Winterhawks season tickets my loyalties were often divided among a few nation's teams. Where ever our boys were playing I wanted them to do well. But overall I wanted the USA to take gold. But this year? When Brent asked if I wanted to pay for the streaming service that would show the games I said no. I just didn't feel like rooting for the USA.

I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the World Cup games for soccer. FIFA has always been corrupt, or at least for as long as I've been watching so it's sort of baked in there that there is always a layer of ick to overcome. But when one of our top players does the Trump YMCA dance after scoring? That's a layer of ick I'm not sure how to completely get past. I'll watch, I'm pretty sure I will at least. But...I might not be as disappointed when the team doesn't live up to its potential and is no longer a factor.

And politics hasn't just invade our sports. It's everywhere.

I like to wear dresses. The way I'm built it's easier to find dresses that fit than jeans. I also stay home and take care of the house. I do most of the cooking and cleaning. So I'm in a dress and taking care of the house and...I'm not conservative. I'm not some sort of tradwife. I don't subscribe to that philosophy. But they've taken over a lot of areas that I enjoy. Clothing styles that I wear. I have found myself wearing my loose pants more than my dresses. Not even consciously. I only figured it out last week when I was looking at an ad for a dress I normally would have jumped right on and could see that the marketing was...well...let's say old fashioned. Which is now modern I guess. But I realized that part of my brain had been associating women in dresses with that philosophy as well and...

Which is so stupid. I look good in dresses so I will continue to wear them. Especially as the weather shifts, my entire summer wardrobe is dresses basically. I'll just make sure to say ACAB a lot so people know where I stand...

I'm only sort of kidding.

I think a lot of us are doing more overt signaling lately as to where our politics lie.

I don't have patience for people who say they don't do politics. We all do politics. I'd just like to do it a little less fraughtly I guess.

And while rocking a super cute dress.
