May Day...
Mayday...mayday...mayday...
I used to hate working downtown on May 1st. There was always a big demonstration and march for workers rights, which, yes, great, I agree, but it would snarl the Max line and I would be stuck with an extra long commute. I can remember thinking...How about the right for this worker to get the fuck home?
Of course things have changed and today there is another round of 50501 protesting going on and I think yes sure I agree... and well just that. Just yes sure I agree. No Kings. Keep your hands off my safety net. Elon and the Felon Have Got to Go. And Won't somebody help look for Rubio's soul?
Today there are marches everywhere. There will be speeches and protests and clever signs and angry signs. People are in the streets, not as many as for the weekend protests I'm sure, but still large numbers will be out voicing their displeasure and speaking for many more of us who aren't there but are still angry. And the pundits on Fox News and their ilk will say that we have all been paid by ActBlue or Indivisible or Soros to be there. That really everything in Trumplandia is great. Again.
Earlier this week Brent and I were talking about our current president and he said he couldn't figure out if he believed the things he says because that's what his people tell him. Or if he knows they are lies but nobody confronts him with it so he just keeps spouting it as truth. I said that I think he knows they are lies and doesn't care, and they know they are lies but know that to stay in his good graces you have to lie so they do.
Then the clips from the interview came out where he insisted that MS13 was ACTUALLY tattooed on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles. Not even the we are going to say that that's what these symbols he has tattooed mean, but the actual letters and numbers. When the interviewer told him that was photoshop Trump absolutely refused to believe him. But the kicker for me was when Trump told him "Why don't you just say yes?"
He believes the bullshit and everybody around him tells him yes. A little of column A a little of column B. He's your crazy old uncle who believes everything he sees on the internet but in charge of the nuclear codes.
Yesterday's cabinet meeting was another round table of praise for Dear Leader. You are the best sir. Nobody has ever done the things you've done, thought the things you've thought, created the chaos you have wrought... You are the best. Pam Bondi praised him for saving 258 million lives with the amount of fentanyl seized at the border. For those of you keeping track at home that's roughly 75% of the population in the states. So 3/4 of us would be dead right now if it weren't for Dear Leader.
I'd say you can't make this up, but that's exactly what they are doing. They make shit up. They just keep spouting nonsense and lies. One of the people I dropped off of my Bluesky feed is Aaron Rupar. Now, Mr. Rupar, does really great work. Basically he watches all of the morning news shows, all of the interviews, all of the press briefings, all of the public comments from the administration and he posts clips of the content. You get the highlights of what is being said without having to watch it all on your own. But the onslaught of bullshit was doing my head in. The Oval Office Executive Order signings, the press briefings set up only for MAGA influencers, the constant lying and contradicting, and did I mention lying?
I see why the hard core right believes in bullshit, it's because that's all they are fed, and they've been conditioned not to go look at any other sources. Or if they are exposed to them to view those sources as Fake News. So no matter how much you and I could watch and say, those numbers are in no way shape or form correct, they would believe them.
Though I think when they see Lutnik saying that to make America Great again we all need to plan on working in a factory, and our kids will work in the same factory and our grandkids and this will be great. They nod along and think, that sounds good, I guess for THOSE people you know those other people but they themselves are going to hold out for a position in management. So I think they believe it all, but only up to the point where it would be bad for them then I think they edit.
So yeah, Mayday...Mayday...we are going down, but only part of us realize it. The rest of them believe the administration when they say the water coming in doesn't mean that the ship is sinking it's that they are just getting a complimentary foot bath. Nobody would have ever thought to do such a thing before, aren't we all lucky for Dear Leader's wisdom?
And if it does sink, it was really Biden's fault.
