Now it REALLY Begins...
So everyone has made their resolutions, set their goals, made their plans, is everyone ready to execute them?
I mean, nobody really expected to start on the 1st right? I mean on a Thursday? Who starts something new on a Thursday? And then it was Friday and that's even worse. And weekends are meant for relaxation not "go get 'em" attitudes so really tomorrow is the start of the new year.
January 5th, that's a good place to say the year starts. You've cleared out all of the goodies from Christmas by now. And by cleared out I mean ate them all. You've researched the "best ab workout for someone who is pretty sure they don't have any abs." You've bought all of the healthy food you are for sure going to make.
You've even decided on Dry January and have maybe even decided that Brent's method of doing Dry January is the best way to make it through. His method is don't. Don't do it. I actually think it's a good exercise and you will get a feel for if you might be consuming too much, but with the current administration it's maybe a little bit of a challenge in a different way. It's easy for me to do considering I still haven't ended Dry July from a few years ago. Though I keep thinking I will so my guess is eventually I'll go back to having a drink here and there and just dealing with the hot flash that it brings.
Me? I'm still working on how exactly I want to track 2026. I've got my end goals set, I've got my interim goals set, but I haven't yet figured out exactly how I want to track them. So far I've stayed away from the stars in my calendar. I want something new. But...what? So I'm still working through that. It might take all of January, doing something a little different each week, until I land on the right combination of scheduling and shiney thing. Which is fine.
I mean tomorrow might be when it all "really" begins, but that's just because we like to start on Mondays. And you know what will happen next week? Another Monday. And you know what you could do to really shake things up? Start on a Tuesday. Or a Wednesday. Or even a Saturday. Just look at what you want to do and start doing it. A long time ago I saw a quote that basically said in a year you will either be a year along in your goals or you will be another year behind. Either way that year is going to pass. Decide how you want to spend it. And start.
And, here's the big life hack, secret they don't want you to know, you'll never believe what this housewife from Oregon does...
You can always change your goals.
Start. See if you like what you are doing. And if it doesn't work for you. Stop. Make changes. Start something new. Life is short and it's getting shorter every day. Do things that are interesting, fun, make you a better person, make the world a better place. Just keep moving forward. Unless it's time to stay still. Then do that for a bit.
Okay, so you might believe that housewife from Oregon does that. I mean she talks about it all the time. But because I do it, I know you can too.
Now it really begins. Good luck!
