Random Collection...

A little housekeeping, a little random thoughts, a little blog.

First off, I realized last night that I set my goal for reading incorrectly. I had in my head to use the background goal I had for the year before last, but instead I just plugged in the number of books I read last year. Which was a high number because I had a stack of graphic novels I burned through. Graphic novels totally count as books, but they take about an hour to read at most. So without those I think 70 is more of a stretch than I'd like to make. Especially with as hard as it is to focus while the world burns.

So anyway...I went with a book a week, plus one extra book a month. Sixty four books. Still a lot of books, honestly. And I'm still behind by two books already, but this seems more realistic and focusing to me. So there you go. First goal adjustment of the year! Books from 70 to 64.

NEXT!

What did you think of the halftime show? We "watched" the first half of the football game to make sure we didn't miss it and both really enjoyed it. Even though we don't speak much Spanish and knew the whole time we were missing a ton of symbolism. (Aside...I did go from oh I missed that, I just assumed the adorable little boy was supposed to represent him and his childhood dreams, to oh no, I was right but the other would have been really cool as well, all in the space of an hour or so) But the music was fun, the dancing was joyful and the parts we did get we really enjoyed. Between last year and this year the halftime shows have been really entertaining to watch and then really educational as you read about all of the things you missed. You get to learn stuff while also shaking your bon bon!

Which you know pissed off a lot of people...

The president took time from his very busy schedule of knocking things down and renaming everything else to complain about the show. Other right wing talking heads did the same. Even though they threw such a hissy fit that TPUSA produced their own halftime show which they billed as the true American event and also memorial to Charlie Kirk. So hype that Erika Kirk didn't even make an appearance, at an event thrown by the organization she heads, that was billed as a remembrance for her late husband. But yeah...I get it. We didn't watch either. Hate filled old man pretends he's still vital while lip syncing to his late 90s early 2000 hit didn't grab us.

And YES I know he's younger than I am, but come on, if I didn't tell you that you wouldn't have thought it.

AND I also own the CD that hit came off of. And two other CDs besides that one. I told you before that I'm basic. I liked it. I whipped my hair to Bawitdaba and teared up the first time I heard Hard Night for Sarah. I still like a lot of it from before he decided to country crossover, though I wouldn't ever give him a dime of my money now and think he's an incredible asshole.

And YES my Michigan friends already knew that about him from watching him come up in the area and they told me "he's a real asshole, not just plays one on TV asshole." They were absolutely right. He's a real asshole. One of those flies the confederate flag while living in a northern state fuckheads.

Which goes to say, I didn't watch the show I didn't think I'd enjoy. I watched the show I thought I would. Even not being familiar with any of Bad Bunny's solo work, even only knowing him from collaborations, I assumed he'd be good. And I was right. And the show was great.

That's the reward you get for doing things that look like fun. They often are. And if you seek out things that you think you'll hate, you often don't have any fun at all. Which explains so much of why MAGA is the way they are. Their fun seems to consist solely of "owning the libs." Which apparently watching halftime shows they knew they wouldn't like so they can whine about how much they didn't like them is part of that. Okay, consider me owned. Boom! You did something you hate while I did something fun. You got me...

So there you go. A little goal resetting and a little reminder to do the things that make you happy and ignore the assholes as much as you can.

And be super excited when Ricky Martin shows up on screen.

Or maybe that was just me.
