Results!

I should have written Wednesday morning about the election results but I was too busy Hope Scrolling.

The Dems won big in every election across the nation. Now, it was an off year election and it won't really change much that's going on but...

It was so nice to feel hopeful on Wednesday. And to see other people feeling hopeful. The wins might not be giant, but they should be celebrated.

I also wanted to wait and see what the Dems in Congress were going to do. Seems like they were thisclose to caving but wanted to wait until after Tuesday so they didn't suppress voter turnout.

Which...

You, motherfuckers, if you know that caving will piss off the voters then that's your cue to NOT FUCKING CAVE. Those of us who have been trying for years to get people to put aside cynicism and vote in every election to move the needle will lose the battle if you keep surrendering. Hell, it's hard enough keeping myself from becoming totally cynical and you aren't helping!

But...because voter turnout was high. And because the voters reflected the OVER IT attitude of a nation they did not cave. (I have zero confidence they won't still cave, but for now they've held strong)

It's beyond frustrating that the Republican strategy is always hold out until people hurt and the Dems will do everything they can to stop the hurt. Which works because Dems don't want people to hurt. Though they don't ever get credit for that they continue to do it because it's the right thing to do. Or left as the case may be.

But what a terrible thing to have to fight. A party that cares so little about it's constituency that they will hurt them until someone else makes them stop.

The only thing that has kept the Dems from caving is that if they do people will still get hurt. Without the healthcare subsidies a lot of people won't be able to afford insurance. You'll see them drop out of the market place and go back to using the ER as their primary. Which then raises costs on everyone else. The whole reason for the ACA in the first place. Though we really should have single payer, government run, basic health care for everyone. That's the truth. Fix the gap right now then blow up the ACA for health care for all.

And if they cave now all of the pain will have been worth nothing. They will have kept everything at a standstill and gotten nothing out of it.

The only good that might come from them caving is getting the Rep from Arizona sworn in so she can be the final vote in getting the Epstein files released. Though I have zero confidence that will actually happen either. They are protecting not only Epstein's best friend, Trump, but every other very powerful person in those files. Looks like the only person who is ever going to face any sort of consequence is Andrew no longer a Prince but still lives in a castle just not the one he was paying a peppercorn for...

So yeah, not really any consequences at all.

But I promise I'm not totally cynical. Not yet.

Not totally.

It was nice to feel hopeful this week. Not going to lie. Let's see how long it sustains all of us in the continuing fight.
