Wake Me Up...

and call me Billie Joe Armstrong because September is ending.

It was a status quo month. That's the best way to describe it. Maybe I was napping along with Mr. Armstrong afterall.

That cold I wrote about Brent having at the end of August turned out to be COVID. Got Brent on the Paxlovid at the last possible moment (holiday weekend, bad timing) and he did the quick turn around that it provides. Didn't even get hit with rebound COVID this time. Which was great.

I didn't catch it. Had a little bit of a scare this past weekend that maybe it was the longest of long tail exposures and I did get it after all. Super tired but no other symptoms popped up and I seem to be okay now.

Read five books. Three fiction two nonfiction. With the nonfiction being one biography and one book on economics. Wasn't a fan of the economics book, but I think it's just that I was not the right audience for it. I think if you knew nothing, and I mean nothing, about economics it might have been better. That and if excessive exclamation point usage didn't drive you to distraction. I think she was trying to make some of the points seem really exciting, but at times it was like every other sentence was being shouted at me. No, I don't think so, thanks.

I had picked it up because I saw an interview with the author and they mentioned there was a chapter on bitcoin that really explained it. I thought, great, I would like to understand bitcoin. Turns out that I do understand bitcoin. I'm not missing some key that's going to make it all make sense as to why our world seems to be enthralled with it all. The best I can gather is that PT Barnum was correct. And as is the way of those things the very worst of people will make bank. Like real bank. As in turing in the bitcoin for dollars while your stash loses all of its value.

So anyway....

Health and fitness. Everything stayed steady which is fine considering I only did cardio 3 times in September with two of them being this week. I just need to remember next August/September to line out my workouts with weights and cardio being split. It's just too hot in the gym (AKA the garage) to work out for that long. You get one or the other not back to back. And I chose weights each and every time.

Writing, well, eh. I mean technically I will have written more days than not, but barely. I even skipped my exchange with Dana on Sunday. I sat on the couch under a blanket all day. But still, even with all of that I wrote 17 days and got 5 pieces of fiction (four to the blog) cranked out. I am going to try and really focus on it in October. Experiment some more with the conversation starter idea. Write some ghost stories. I have a fiction piece in my head I almost wrote yesterday but I think I might have written something really close already and I just haven't taken the time to search it out. I might just write it again and see if anyone else thinks I've already done it.

Added Masterclass back in and did NK Jemisin's class, which was great. Of course it was. I'll do one from Roxane Gay this month as well as a side trip into skin health. They are also doing repackaging of courses, like instead of doing one from one person, it's one around a theme. Like confidence or adaptability, or whatever and then they pull lessons from a bunch of different courses. Not sure if I will dabble in those, but I might. Since this is just for fun and curiosity.

The United States continues its spiral and we are looking at a government shutdown. Which, honestly, why pass a spending plan if he's just going to ignore it anyway? The I can't even come with new clever ways of saying they aren't Supreme Court is basically following the very special boy principle and allowing him to disregard any checks or balances so we're cooked. It's been one thing after another since January and it's just exhausting.

Today's affront to the decency of the population was our Secretary of Defense (WAR!) called all of the generals and admirals together to lecture them on the no fatties rules. And to let them know that if Tailhook happened today it wouldn't be the Tailhook Scandal, it would be the Tailhook that's what those bitches get for thinking women should be in the service atta boy meeting. Seriously. Hazing is back in, war crimes are expunged from your record, everybody better be as fit as he is, except I guess the Commander in Chief but...anyway...it was embarrassing. It was disgusting. It was...well the way it goes now I guess. He's not looking at recruiting the best and the brightest, but the lowest and the meanest. Just so aggravating. Then Trump got on stage and let them know that the war they are fighting will be inside the United States. Oh lovely.

And for those of you who might have heard Portland is war torn, it's not. Like, not at all. Not even a little. Turns out our oh so in touch with the world President was watching Fox News at the beginning of September and they showed footage from the protests that happened Labor Day weekend. But see, they were peaceful and that's no bueno for Fox so they cut in footage from the BLM protests in 2020 where the base of a statue was set on fire. So Trump was like...Oh that hellhole Portland is burning to the ground! YAY!! Let's send in troops!

But no, it wasn't. It isn't. And even if there had been a fire adding troops doesn't put it out, it just gasses it up.

So on to October...though after writing that I think maybe sleeping through it might not be terrible.

Just keeping on. Focusing on writing more. Making sure I'm consistent with both parts of my workouts. Remembering to be the best version of myself that I can be. Looking for the joy in my life. Loving on my husband and my daughter in their birthday month.

Head down.
Heart full.
Focusing on what I can control and trying not to get too discouraged by what I can't.

Spooky Season on Deck! Bring out the dead!

I mean, not literally.

Just for decorations.
