Confrontational...
So...I briefly wrote about the backup basketball player who is getting a lot of attention for her anti trans statements here. The right wing hate machine is ramping up around her. Apparently they bought tickets for a group of teenage girls and their mothers to sit behind the Fever bench at the Seattle game and look for confrontation, which they could film and show what horrible victims they are. The right wing playbook.
And it looks like they are going to do it again Friday at the Fire game. You know, the team we have season tickets for and where we sit behind the visiting players bench. A few rows up, but still in that area.
I had already planned on wearing my trans flag colored "You'll Have to Go Through Me" t-shirt that Raquel got for me a few years ago. I'm not looking for a confrontation, I just want their bench back to know that free speech doesn't mean everyone agrees with you speech.
I'm not looking to be part of their "woe is me, everyone is so mean!" reel. I am not planning on getting into a confrontation with a group that will be looking for one. I am not planning on engaging with them at all.
I'm not planning on it.
But I will be there. I will be wearing my t-shirt. I will be standing up. I will be a presence. I will be a support. I will hopefully be a sign to any trans people watching that they are not alone.
And if they confront me? Well...
The best laid plans of mice and men and all that....
