Yeah, No...

A few months ago Brent sat down and worked out what his schedule might look like if instead of taking his owed vacation as a block before retirement he took a few days each week through the end of the year. Financially there is a difference between retiring the beginning of December or the beginning of January. (For those of you who don't live in the US, one of our biggest expenses in retirement will be healthcare, that would have given us an extra month of coverage)

So he lined it all out and had me look at it and asked my opinion. Three day work weeks for the most part. A full week off for Thanksgiving and extra time off around Christmas. I told him it was totally up to him.

He was leaning toward doing that. On Saturday. When he made up the calendar. Then Monday he went in to work and when he came home he said, "Nope. Leaving it the way it is. It's just not worth it." Which I had kind of figured he would do. There was a reason he decided to retire a few years ahead of our original plan afterall.

So what I'm saying is on this Monday my plan to do a version of NaNo doesn't look as good as it did on Saturday. Same same...

Sort of.

Basically what I want to do at the beginning of Brent's new chapter is encourage him to take some downtime and relax and let everything go as much as possible. I don't know what that will look like. Adding in two hours of writing every day for me isn't encouraging that for him. And because I'm not tied to November for an official NaNo thing I can do it whenever I want.

I'm thinking a Just Write January sounds pretty good. The weather sucks anyway so there isn't yard work to do, or hikes that sound good, it's an inside time. So if I decide to try out a big push to decide what I want to do with writing I think that's the time to do it. If I still want to by then.

I don't know what our lives look like starting next Monday. I don't know how everything will line out. But I'm looking forward to seeing. And I'm looking forward to letting it take the shape it wants to instead of being forced into a box.

Today and tomorrow left to go before we turn the page and see what's next.

I can't wait!
